1986: Ted Turner's Turner Broadcasting System acquired the MGM/UA library from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (in which includes the Tom & Jerry, Droopy and the pre-1948 Warner Bros. cartoons), those cartoons aired on TBS and TNT.

1991: Turner Broadcasting purchased Hanna-Barbera Productions and Ruby-Spears Productions from Taft Broadcasting, later that year the company announced to launched the Cartoon Network, the world's first 24-hour animated cable network.

1992: The Cartoon Network debuted on October 1st at noon ET/PT with a Bugs Bunny cartoon "Rhapsody Rabbit".

1993: Cartoon Network co-produced The Moxy Show with Hanna-Barbera, their first original program.  

1994: Scooby-Doo! joins the Cartoon Network lineup from the USA Network, the network launches Ghost Planet Industries (now Williams Street) and produced their first and officially original series Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

1995: What a Cartoon! (also know World Premiere Toons) debuted as most Cartoon Network shorts would become their own half-hour shows beginning with Dexter's Laboratory in 1996, Cartoon Network Video was formed to release classic cartoons and newer cartoons on VHS and DVD.

1996: In a revival of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest became Cartoon Network's highest rated show in which lasted for two seasons, Cartoon Network Studios was founded by the network and Dexter's Labortoary served as the studio's first cartoon, Turner Broadcasting (which owns Cartoon Network) completes its merger with Time Warner in November.

1997: Cartoon Network launches Toonami, the action programming block provides some old-school cartoons along with newer shows (mostly anime) for the younger viewers, Johnny Bravo and Cow & Chicken made their respected debuts while they added the post-1948 Warner Bros. cartoons following the Turner-Time Warner merger.

1998: CartoonNetwork.com launches and now served as the no.1 destination site for kids, The Powerpuff Girls debuted and became the most successful animated show in Cartoon Network history.

1999: Cartoon Cartoons Fridays debuts at 7:00pm as a four-hour programming block for newer Cartoon Network original shows.

2000: Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law debuted on December 30th in the early morning slot.

2001: Cartoon Network launched Adult Swim, the network's evening and overrun block for young adults in which now runs from 9pm to 6am weekly, Samurai Jack and Justice League debuted, Dexter's Laboratory returned to the network after a year-long hiatus.
